WHAT IF THE ANSWER YOU’RE LOOKING FOR IS IN OUR FREQUENTLY ASKED QUESTIONS?
1/ What is the composition of Composite PREMIUM?
Composite PREMIUM consists of two-thirds wood and one-third polymer (polyethylene).
2/ How do Composite PREMIUM colors evolve?
Composite PREMIUM does not turn gray like solid wood. Color variations are minimal.
The exposure of boards to UV and the presence of wood flour as raw material cause a temporary and natural phenomenon. This phenomenon is called tanning and occurs in the first days after exposure of PREMIUM® composite wood boards to UV. During this phase, the board charges with UV, and yellowing of the color can be observed. This phase lasts a few weeks and then the colors stabilize as close as possible to their original color. Thus, it is possible, when ordering an additional board, to find a color difference with the boards already installed. This difference will fade subsequently.
3/ What tools to use for installing Composite PREMIUM?
Installation requires no specific tools. Composite wood is worked like solid wood (saw, planer, drill). For fastening, do not use glue or nails.*
4/ What maintenance does a Composite Premium deck require?
Decking:
Composite Premium composite wood boards require no special protection. However, minimal maintenance keeps your deck looking like new. Therefore, we recommend washing your deck once a year as follows:
- Wash your deck in the longitudinal direction of the boards with diluted mild detergent (you can use the Composite Premium composite wood board cleaning product)
- Clean the spacing between boards using a metal blade to maintain good water drainage
Surface mold can cause stains. To clean them, use a product containing diluted bleach. To remove grease or oil stains, use a common dish cleaning product.
For scratches or persistent stains, use a brass brush by wetting the boards beforehand to avoid lightening them. Brush gently in the longitudinal direction of the boards. Generally, grease stains disappear under UV action within a few weeks. Brushing or sanding may cause slight discoloration that will fade over time.
Moisture stains may appear in exposed areas such as around furniture or under gutters. These stains disappear over time under the action of UV and weather. It is possible to accelerate this process by watering and cleaning the affected area using a scrub brush (work in the longitudinal direction of the boards).
Stain description | Duration of phenomenon | Causes | Stain removal procedure |
Yellow stain | Temporary phenomenon if boards are exposed to UV and weather | Color evolution of composite wood boards due to presence of wood flour (See diagram below) | This stain disappears gradually after prolonged exposure of boards to UV and weather. To accelerate the phenomenon, boards can be cleaned using a water jet and scrub brush working in the longitudinal direction of the boards. |
Moisture halo | Temporary phenomenon if boards are exposed to UV and weather | Water evaporation can cause a halo. This stain is visible during the first rainfall and is common under shelter. | Although this phenomenon is temporary and disappears under UV and weather action, the process can be accelerated by cleaning boards using a water jet and scrub brush working in the longitudinal direction of the boards. |
Dirt stain | Long-term phenomenon if no human intervention | Caused by atmospheric pollution. Dirt deposits on the surface. | To remove this type of stain, mechanical action is necessary Equipment: sponge with scraper or scrub brush Method: always work in the longitudinal direction of the boards. Do not use pressure washers. |
5/ Is a PREMIUM deck durable?
Yes. The combination of wood and polymer gives the PREMIUM deck exceptional resistance properties. A PREMIUM deck is guaranteed for 20 years against termites and fungi.
6/ What material to plan for my decking project?
